Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician (MT/MLT)
Location: St. Ignace, MI
Start Date: September 8, 2025
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Shift: Varied (9-hour shifts) – Mon-Fri (0600–1630, 0800–1830, 0930–2000)
Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
Hours Guaranteed: 36 hours per week
Weekly Pay Package: $1,623.18 (includes $984.90 tax-free stipend + $638.28 taxable pay)

Job Summary

Mackinac Straits Health System is seeking an experienced Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician to join their laboratory team. The ideal candidate will function as a generalist with strong phlebotomy skills and experience in blood bank testing. This role requires flexibility to work variable shifts and support hospital needs while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and quality patient care.

Responsibilities

Perform routine and specialized clinical laboratory tests using automated and manual methods.

Review and analyze test results for accuracy, quality control, and clinical significance.

Communicate test findings to physicians and other authorized personnel.

Maintain accurate documentation of results, data, and quality assurance activities.

Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.

Assist in developing procedures, training staff, and maintaining accreditation readiness.

Provide instruction and support to new staff and students.

Perform blood specimen collection, specimen processing, and related clerical tasks.

Ensure compliance with CLIA regulations and hospital standards.

Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring adequate supply levels.

Support departmental operations by covering different shifts when necessary.

Requirements

1+ year of recent MT/MLT/MLS experience – Required

Phlebotomy experience – Required

Generalist experience (including blood bank) – Required

AMT certification – Required

ASCP certification – Preferred

COVID-19 vaccination – Required

Ability to work flexible schedules and every 3rd weekend

Additional Information

Gray scrubs required

Equipment used includes Beckman AU 480, Beckman Access 2, Sysmex 1000i, Sysmex XP 300, Opti CCA, Avox 4000, Stago Compact Max, Vitek 2, BacT Alert, Medtox Scan, Abbott ID Now
